Among the /those who/ admirers of greyhounds of the Italian race, distinguished from other greyhounds by their smallness, it has been a practice, for the purpose of enhancing that quality which in that instance in the seat of ideal virtue /[...?]/, to don the animal with a narcotic, which by weakening its vital power, and impairing the health of the animal, stunts its growth.

He may then read himself at once out of all desire and all capacity and all desire of distinguishing right from wrong, for any other purpose than that of the superior respect due to the latter /that one of those which is/ as being the better customer. To this case belongs more particularly that where the person to whose conduct the direction is endeavoured to be given is an Office bearer, and the direction such as he is not likely to be solicited to deviate from by any sinister interest: where in the execution of the arrangements in question the nature of the case requires that more or less latitude should be given: a purpose with which the unbinding forms of inspiration would scarcely be compatible. In the language of French legislation the use of the form here proposed is frequent.

This [let it be allowed] is a penal law and not a remedial: this other a remedial and not a penal one.
