Ch. 29 Mother &c rejected

The mother and brethren were it appears disobedient to him

It seems to have been immediately after the ordination of the 12 that his friends (οι παρ’ αυτου) supposing him to be beside himself were for laying hands on him. See Ch. 18. Per Mark on this same occasion after his friends have endeavoured in[?] this in vain, his mother and brethren try to speak with him and are then refused.

Per Matt. XII. 22 to 50 it is immediately after the conversation about blasphemy against the Holy Ghost & casting out devils by Beelzebub which was brought on by the healing of the blind & dumb dæmoniac which was next after the healing the man on sabbath which was next after the plucking the corn on the sabbath.

    Ch. 27

    Parable of the seed sown on good and bad ground. – Parable of the tares sown after the wheat. Parables why employed – viz. that the chosen may understand; the multitude not. To the chosen, open-dealing recommended: viz. by the allusive parable of the candle set on a candlestick not under a bushel. Luke VIII 4 to 18. Matt. XIII. 1 to 53. Mark IV. 1 to 34. John silent.

    Ch. 72 Devils by Beelzebub

    Time not ascertainable. In Luke XI Matt. XII & Mark III in all three a different time. In Luke it comes next after the Lord’s Prayer. Place in Luke not specified – nor in Matthew – Nor in Mark In Matt. XII 22 it comes next after the healing the man with the withered hand on the Sabbath. In Mark III. 19. it also comes next after the nomination of the twelve which is after the healing of the withered hand, with an interval between during which multitudes flocking to get into a ship i.e. boat to be clear of them as he was preaching to them.

    Per Mark no miracle on this occasion. Per Luke a dumb devil cast out. Per Matthew, a blind and dumb devil

    Note it is while he is casting out this devil that in Luke some are calling on him for a sign. This then was no sign. Why? because (per Jesus) their sons cast out Devils too.

    Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost imputing these miracles to Beelzebub.

    Nonsensicalness of the dry places parable.} Not with me against me – in direct contradiction to the same Luke but two chapters before. Luke IX. 50

    Luke’s brief mention of the Holy Ghost comes at a later period.

    Ch. 72

    Conversation on the question by whom he cast out devils whether by Beelzebub or the Holy Ghost – Sin against the Holy Ghost unpardonable. Occasion not ascertainable – three different occasions mentioned by the three reporting Evangelists. Inexplicable parable about the dispossessed man walking in dry places, and receiving seven devils instead of the one. On hearing it A woman breaks out into benedictions.

    Ch. 35

    In all three this intervenes and is all that intervenes between the mission of the 12 and their return. Strange absurdity and contradiction. To Herod the most natural supposition is that Jesus is John risen from the dead. Jesus having all the while been working so many miracles without Herod’s hearing of any of them. When Jesus was an infant Herod through jealousy tries to kill him: now he only desires to see him, and there the matter ends. In Matthew intervene betwixt mission and return Chapter XI. XII. XIII Incidents 1. John’s sending his disciples from his prison to report to him about Jesus. 2. Defence of his disciples when plucking corn on the sabbath against the Pharisees. 3. Healing of the withered hand. 4. Healing of the blind & dumb demoniac. 5. Rebuke of the Pharisees in their asking a sign. 6. Refusal to see mother & brethren. 7. Delivering of the parables, with the reason given to the select disciples why he preferred parables. Quere[?] who were these select, since[?] by the other two evangelists, the 12 apostles sent were not returned till afterwards.

    Ch. 35.

    Execution of John the Baptist in his prison by Herod. Hearing of Jesus’s proceedings, Herod supposes him to be John risen from the dead, and desires to see him.
