Ch In Jesus no

Adulteress

To be copied

1. Leviticus XX. 10.

And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth

adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be

put to death.

2. Deuteronomy XXII. 22. If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband,

then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with

the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

3. Deuteronomy XXIV. 1. 2. 3. 4. When a man hath taken a wife and married her, and it

come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some

uncleanness in her, then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

2. And when she is departed out of his house she may go and be another man’s wife.

3. And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement and giveth

it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house, or if the

latter husband die, which took her to be his wife,

4. Her former husband which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife,

after she is defiled; for that is abomination before the Lord: and thou shat not

cause the land to sin, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for

an inheritance.

4. Deuteronomy XVII. 2 to 7. If there be found among you, within any of thy gates

which the Lord thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the

sight of the Lord thy God, in transgressing his covenants,

3. And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the Sun, or moon,

or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

4. And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and,

behold it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:

5. Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that

wicked thing, unto thy gate, even that man or that woman, and shall stone them with

stones, till they die.

6. At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of

death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

7. The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and

afterwards the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among

you.

Speaking of Jerusalem ‘Behold (says he v. 44) every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother so is the daubhter.

‘45. Then art thy mother’s daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children, and thou {art} the sister of thy sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother {was} an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.’

    46. ‘And thy elder sister is}Samaria, she and her daughters that dwelt at the left hand: and thy younger sister that dwelleth at thy right hand, Sodom and her daughters.’

‘47. Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but as {if that were a very little {thing} thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.’

‘48. As I live, saith the Lord God, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done thou and thy daughters.’

‘49. Behold this was the iniquity of thy sides Sodom, Pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.’

[50.] MS ’40.’ ‘And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore took them away as I saw good.’

[51.] MS ’41.’ ‘Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.’

    13. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to

dwell with her, let her not leave him.

    14. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the Wife and the unbelieving wife

is sanctified by y e husband: else were your children unclean; but

    now are they holy.

    15. But if the unbelieving depart let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under

bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

    16. For what knowest thou O Wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how

knowest thou O man whether thou shalt save thy Wife?

    17. But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so

let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.

Rom VII. 1 to 25. Tautology

VI. Repeated nonsense much of it

Nonsense about the Law, marriage— adultery, death, body of Christ— resurrection, fruit, flesh, motions of sins, members spirit—letter, least commandment, concupiscence — holy, just & good commandment, spirituality, carnality: concluding with a sad paraphrase of video meliora proboque Deteriora sequor —

    1. Know ye not brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over man as long as he liveth?

    2. For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth: but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

    3. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead she is free from the law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

    4. Wherefore my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ, that ye should be married to another, even to him that is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

    5. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

    6. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we sh d serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

    7. What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by ye law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said Thou shalt not covet.
