Thence /Thus/ it is that to a pure Monarchy, the epithet /attribute/ pure belongs /appertains/ in more senses than one: it is pure, if not from all corruption: from all corruption /corruptive influence/ applied by or on behalf of the Monarch on those who are sharers with him in power, for the purpose or with the effect of engaging them to betray in his favour their trust /any trust of theirs/ Why? because his power has none to share in it.

3. Class of persons operating: operating to the effect of exercising corruptive influence, and thereby producing breach of trust.

On the subject of this topic more or less has already of necessity been already said.

Be the trustees who they may, be the power in respect of which they are in trust what it may, be the breach itself what it may, in the endeavour to produce the /give birth to this same/ breach of trust all persons who are capable of reaping - or who are capable of regarding themselves as capable of reaping from such breach of trust a benefit in any shape ought to be regarded as disposed to endeavour, and if, from the endeavour, no preponderant evil to themselves is regarded as about /likely/ to have place, as actually endeavouring to give birth to the benefit in question and consequently to the corresponding breach. /whensoever from no preponderant evil to themselves is regarded as likely to be produced by the endeavour./

In England the persons who ought to be considered as constantly occupied in the endeavour to produce on the part of the so stiled representatives of the people a constant habit of violating in every part the trust said to be reposed in them are - 1. all the several individuals with whom they themselves have any special connection in the way of interest or sympathy: their wives, their children, their near relations, their friends, their dependents of all sorts

2. The Monarch

3. All the several functionaries who whether appointed by or removable by the Monarch are subject to his orders /coercion/ or in a way to be operated upon by his alluring and corruptive influence

4. The Members of the House of Lords and their connections, as above

5 The other great landowners partakers in the same sinister and all their several connections, as above

6. All other persons who look to receive immediately or more or less unimmediately and remotely from any of the above any portion of the matter of corruption in any shape.

I do not say that while there is one hand /any person/ able and willing to render it the interest of the representatives and other trustees of the people to betray their trust in such sort as to reproduce an absolute despotism /a despotic tyranny/, that trust will not be sure sooner or later to be betrayed accordingly, although no such distant dominion had place: I do not say and consequently that the abandonment /abdication/ of that dominion would of itself be sufficient for ever to prevent the breaking of that same trust. All I say is that by /from/ the preservation of that dominion, the consummation of the breach of trust in question, and the reproduction of that same tyranny will be in a prodigious degree accelerated. will receive certainty and promptitude.
