Sir

I doubt not but You will be pleased to hear that my little Pupil is well, & is settled in his own Room without catching any Cold. I am afraid he is not a very punctual Correspondent. I left it to him to acquaint You that our young Gentlemen in general went into Mourning, & I find since, that he wrote his Letter & forgot to send it.

It will be necessary for You to send us a Bill with a Receipt for the Paper, that we may know hereafter how to third it.

I am, Sir, Your most obed t. humble Serv t. Jacob Jefferson

    Dear Sir,

I was favoured with Your Letter — My little

Pupil's Verses were indeed very pretty for one of his Years:

Yet perhaps they would have been still better, had he been

sooner settled in his own Room. If I mistake not, they

were begun only on the Monday preceding the Thursday on

which they were shew'd up. — I mentioned to him

what You writ in relation to his getting a Pair of

strong Shoes made to wear in very wet weather. —

You may depend on my Endeavours to keep him to

his private Studies in the manner You desired.—

Your Desire to have him spend his Christmas Holy-

-days with You in Town, will be very readily complied

with: And the kind Invitation You give me to the

same place, is extremely obliging; but I am afraid

it will hardly be in my Power to accept of it at

this time. I am, Sir, Y. r most obed. t hble Serv. t J. Jefferson
