ch. Lawyers' interest
'4 Different ranks
In England may be seen an instance of a country arrived at that pitch of ------- /economy/ and good government in which men howsoever they may ----- to submitt to the old abuses, will not suffer /submitt/ any new ones. In this state of things the worst effect that can be produced by sinister interest prevailing /domineering/ in the breast of judges /the judge/, though ----- with ever such exclusive influence, is to protect the /all/ existing abuses against remedy: the extension of them at least by any sudden /new/ operation, and in any considerable /observable/ degree being altogether not of his power /hopeless/. Whatever of this ---- is in his power may naturally be expected and ought on all occasions to be looked for at his hands.
