If then a bridle be in this case an indispensable instrument /implement/, what other can be so gentle an one? to the efficiency of a curb it adds the gentleness of a snaffle. Even in a pure Monarchy or a pure Aristocracy so gentle is its operation such is the gentleness of its nature, the existence of it might not impossibly be found endurable. Understand so far as regards the Penal and Civil Code: for as to the Constitutional Code the bridle would have the light of free instruction for its accompaniment and in a Monarchy or a pure Aristocracy no free light can in the nature of the case on that part of the field be endurable: under such dominion darkness must for ever cover the face of that deep.
