To the defendants side /purpose/, this defendant being dishonest, and thence[?] to his seducer[?] and accomplice the Judge, it contributes by other means.
Regarding it /imprisonment/ in the character of a remedy /instrument of justice/, and that an efficacious one - at any rate as a remedy which affords /holds out/ him the only chance which is to be had, the plaintiff, honest or dishonest, is glad to purchase /pay the price of/ it. But to no such purpose has it been destined[?] by the Judge. Living /Remaining[?]/ in the Jail, and if he[?] pleases and has got [...?] enough of the Plaintiff's in his hands rioting in it /there/, according to[?] as character prompts and opportunity serves he forms the arrangements at [...?] for secreting the money /property/, or expecting[?] it, or transferring it to friendly hands or if [...?] not upon back[?] going with it, or at the worst living in the Jail upon the fruits of it: and but[?] then should be [...?] difficulty, care has been taken by the fraternity, and /with/ their dupes[?] and /or/ accomplices in the legislature, that[?] to provide[?] ample[?] in abundance in any of /among/ which at his choice the defendant, which thus submitting to be placed[?] for the Comfort of the Judge, may behold the [...?] in [...?] thus portioned[?], in a state of security against all disturbance from the hand of justice.
