Emancipation Spanish
' 11 2. People attached
And in those former days, of those in this instance this /the supposed/ attachment had place be /let/ the number ever so great, what were the circumstances in which it had place, what in a word was the cause of it?
They heard /were told/, and hearing /and being told they/ believed that by /from/ this illustrious dominion /source/ great profit accrued to them encreased to every body - to every body much was saved in taxes. They may now be told - they are told - and it being true, and incontrovertibly true, it is not likely that for ever it should continue to be disbelieved that so far from being in any degree eased they are in a vast degree burthened by it.
If he will but look into the account, any man may know that he is burthened by their supposed or pretended easement he is burthened - burthened as truly and undeniably as by any debt he was ever charged with.
Thus vanish all those delusions by which it is possible for any sharer in this dominion by application made to the people of /subject many in Spain/ and their regard for their own interest to reconcile them to the idea of suffering their ruler to accept or continue to possess were it offered to them by the people of Spanish America a dominion which can not be in such hands without being an instrument of oppression - of oppression not capable of not being inflicted, and sure to be inflicted upon the people of both nations.
