Some /Two/ of those men I saw, and was in same habits with. They made no secret of the information that in their provinces they were those that wished for a Monarch. But they mentioned no other reasons than that the hope was that by that means the Monarchs of Europe might be more favourable to them. They did not say that this was what they themselves were wishing for and trying for. They were in raptures with my work: with all such as they were acquainted with, being the /those/ works which M r Dumont had published. Between them they were occupied with a translation of them. But on further questioning the translation was to be a free one: and whatever it was to undergo amendments additative[?] ones at least, the object of which was to accomodate the mixture and complexion of them to the [...?] namely their own for which the translation was principally if not exclusively designed.
The gentlemen were lawyers: and of course in this improved and scientifically adapted edition the interest of Learned Gentlemen could not have been passed over with neglect, as under a system of law of which obscurity is the main object, every man who can find in his head knowledge and thus muster up in his hand courage enough to touch upon the subject, must every where have been or be.
