But where honour is out of the question, (as it will be or nearly so, in a Court composed of 4 or 5 Judges, unless all but the President, [...?], as is natural into cyphers, [...?] a Court having in [...?] 4 or 5 Judges yet in effect but one) where honour is out of the question, there remains as the only subject of competition, wrong. But if money be the subject of competition, it will be money in the shape of fees: and the incompatibility of remuneration in that shape with good judicature is a point on which I can not help flattering myself has already been put out of doubt.
