Ch. 121 Thomas convinced

Time per John sole narrator, 8 days after the appearance as per last

Place per d o Jerusalem

Thomas jibed for not believing: still the one thing needful viz. groundless belief laboured at.

Many other signs truly did σημεια εποιησεν not written in this book – this will put in to let in all the credulity collectable from other quarters

Did this mean in the whole course of his life or only on this occasion at that meeting?

{These are written that ye might believe} – state the grand object

The purpose upon which alone this miracle was expended was the subduing the incredulity of Thomas. Had he really appeared would he not have found other matters to say to them? a further confirmation of the character and design above imputed to Johns Gospel.

Ch. 121

Third, fourth or fifth appearance to the disciples. Thomas being now with them. Thomas’s incredulity removed.

Luke silent. Matt. silent. Mark silent. John XX. 26 to 31.
